TV Accent Wall with Wooden Slats and Floating Shelf

Custom TV accent wall installation in Rye, New York, giving a plain living room wall the kind of architectural presence that furniture alone never could. Before the work began, the space was a standard white-walled room with a flat-mounted Samsung TV, a freestanding media console, and a single vertical slat panel leaning against the wall — a hint at the direction the homeowner wanted to go, but nothing built-in or cohesive. The ceiling fan and recessed cans overhead were doing the heavy lifting aesthetically, while the TV wall itself had no weight or intention behind it.

Ovation Contractors built the accent wall from floor to near-ceiling using pre-manufactured acoustic wood slat panels — a natural oak-toned material with dark backing that creates the linear shadow-gap effect seen throughout the finished installation. The panels were fitted wall-to-wall and cut precisely around the TV mount, keeping the surface continuous and clean. A custom floating shelf in matching birch plywood was installed directly into the slat field, cantilevered at media-console height to support components without legs or brackets breaking the visual plane. To the left of the accent wall, a full-height two-door cabinet was built and integrated flush with the surrounding drywall, providing enclosed storage that disappears into the composition rather than competing with it.

The recessed lighting was repositioned and adjusted to wash down over the new wall surface, letting the texture of the wood slats read properly in the room. New light-toned LVP flooring was also laid throughout the space in Rye, tying the warmth of the oak slat panels to the floor and unifying the room from ground to ceiling. Cord management was addressed within the build so that the finished wall reads clean from across the room.
